Namaa Charity submits a report to the Minister of Social Affairs on its projects in correctional institutions, in cooperation with the Ministry of Interior.
In a move that reflects Namaa Charity's commitment to the Social Reform Society's societal and humanitarian mission, the charity submitted a special report to the Minister of Social Affairs, Family and Childhood Affairs, Dr. Amthal Al-Huwailah, outlining its most prominent projects implemented within correctional institutions in the State of Kuwait, in partnership with the Ministry of Interior.
This initiative affirms the important role of charitable work in supporting the state's efforts to reform and rehabilitate inmates and promote the values of family, spiritual, and psychological cohesion.
Saad Marzouq Al-Otaibi, CEO of Namaa Charity, stated that the charity has recently implemented several important projects within Kuwaiti prisons, including equipping classrooms in the Central Prison, renovating the "Family House" project, and building a fully-integrated mosque within the General Administration of Correctional Institutions. He emphasized that these projects are part of Namaa Charity's vision to transform correctional institutions into integrated environments for rehabilitation, education, and psychological and social support, not simply places for the execution of sentences. Al-Otaibi added that the association is currently working on four new projects within the same site, in cooperation with the Ministry of Interior. These include the restoration of handicrafts classrooms, the rehabilitation of the outdoor sports field, and the construction of a building dedicated to the children of mothers in the women's prison. This is in addition to development projects to improve the infrastructure in line with humanitarian support and comprehensive care standards.
The "Family House" project, established in the Central Prison, was one of the most impactful humanitarian initiatives. This project provides a safe and private family environment that allows prisoners, male or female, to spend time with their spouses outside the prison in specially prepared spaces that take into account psychological and privacy considerations. It aims to strengthen family ties and mitigate the effects of psychological and emotional disintegration. The project offers guidance and educational programs, as well as professional and psychological services that contribute to improving inmates' behavior and strengthening their relationships with their families. It also raises awareness of how to raise children and rebuild relationships within families.
The report also covered the educational classroom project, implemented in partnership with the Ministry of Interior, which allows inmates to complete their education from primary school through high school, with certificates accredited by the Ministry of Education. This gives them the opportunity to enroll in universities after serving their sentences, contributing to their reintegration into society and opening up new future prospects that enhance job opportunities and social stability.
In terms of spiritual support, Namaa Charity, in partnership with the Ministry of Interior, inaugurated the Abdullah Al-Ali Al-Mutawa Mosque within the General Administration of Correctional Institutions in January 2025. This mosque serves as a qualitative addition that enhances the religious and spiritual values of both staff and inmates. The mosque was created in response to a genuine need to provide a faith-based environment within prisons that allows for prayers and religious lessons, which boost morale and provide inmates with a sense of reassurance and connection to their spiritual identity.
For his part, Abdulaziz Al-Ibrahim, Head of Communications at Namaa Charity, emphasized that these projects reflect the spirit of community partnership between state institutions and charitable organizations. He pointed out that Namaa Charity represents an effective humanitarian arm of the State of Kuwait at home and abroad, and is committed to translating the directives of the political leadership into practical initiatives that place people at the heart of its efforts. Al-Ibrahim added that what has been achieved within correctional institutions is a model to be emulated in joint development work. It reflects Kuwait's commitment to its humanitarian mission and its efforts to support inmates and rehabilitate them psychologically, socially, and educationally. He noted that the beneficiaries of these initiatives expressed their gratitude for the genuine support and practical solutions they saw, which improved their lives within correctional institutions. Concluding his statement, he affirmed that Namaa Charity will continue to work side by side with the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of Social Affairs, and various official bodies to achieve further accomplishments that serve the interests of individuals and society. He added that its projects will remain a living testament to the value of Kuwaiti giving and its efforts towards sustainable social reform.
