Namaa Charity opens a medical clinic in Chad to serve thousands of patients monthly.
As part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen the healthcare system in the most needy areas, Namaa Charity, affiliated with the Social Reform Society, announced the opening of a new, state-of-the-art medical clinic in the Republic of Chad. The clinic will serve thousands of residents in three villages deprived of even the most basic health services.
Khaled Mubarak Al Shamri, Head of the Development and Relief Sector at Namaa Charity, said: "Thanks be to God, we have opened this clinic, which represents a true beacon of hope for thousands of residents of rural areas in Chad, who have suffered for years from a lack of basic healthcare. The clinic, built on an area of 268 square meters, consists of two integrated floors and serves more than 1,000 patients per month."
Al Shamri explained that the ground floor includes two clinics: a pediatric and obstetrics clinic, a pharmacy, an emergency room, a reception hall, and restrooms. The upper floor contains a medical laboratory, an administration room, a specialist clinic, a radiology clinic, and doctors' housing. He noted that these facilities ensure the provision of continuous primary medical care to the local community. He pointed out that the clinic serves three major villages, the nearest of which is located 10 kilometers from the nearest existing health center. This forced patients—especially children, women, and the elderly—to travel long distances in harsh climatic conditions to reach the nearest treatment point, often leading to worsening conditions or death before accessing care.
Al-Shammari emphasized that this project did not come out of nowhere, but rather in response to a difficult health situation. Statistics indicate that the number of doctors in Chad does not exceed 0.085 per 1,000 people, according to World Bank data, one of the lowest rates globally.
Furthermore, less than 5.6% of the population has access to safe drinking water, while 40% of health facilities lack sanitation services, according to the World Health Organization. This leads to the spread of chronic and infectious diseases and the deterioration of public health standards.
He added, "Health centers in remote areas are scarce, medical staff is limited, and infrastructure is weak. Therefore, this project is an urgent and humanitarian response, aiming to save lives, relieve pressure on other centers, and bring services closer to beneficiaries in a safe and dignified manner."
Al-Shammari noted that Namaa Charity was keen to implement the project after a thorough field study in cooperation with its approved partners, to ascertain the needs of the area, the suitability of the location, and ensure the sustainability and effective operation of the center.
He also highlighted the importance of integrating local villagers into service provision, within a comprehensive development vision that seeks to empower beneficiary communities and not be satisfied with temporary support.
Concluding his statement, Al-Shammari said, "This project reflects the pioneering humanitarian role of the State of Kuwait and the commitment of the wise political leadership—represented by His Highness the Amir Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah—to promoting charitable and relief work across the globe."
He extended his thanks to the Kuwaiti Ministry of Social Affairs and the Kuwaiti Ministry of Foreign Affairs for their continued cooperation and facilitation of the implementation of such humanitarian projects, which highlight Kuwait's bright image as a capital of humanity.
He also thanked the charitable people in Kuwait who have never hesitated to support such vital projects, calling for more giving and continued support for health, education, and water projects in Africa and other countries in need.
